I love Shakira. She has a very endearing vocal style, but I would not try to tell anyone that she is the most technically gifted vocalist in Pop Music. Who do you think has the best set of pipes? Christina Aguilera? Regine Velasquez? Sarah Brightman? Annie Wilson?
This is, to a large extent a matter of taste. Obviously people who lack range or power or sing off key don't qualify. Many women with exquisite voices do not become superstars because they don't have the right look or they don't want to play the sexuality card. One of my favorite voices belongs to Mary Jane Lamond.
