The Hard Decision For Stars Touring the Middle East

Shakira is playing a huge concert in Dubai. From what I can find out, she is not perfoming anywhere in Israel. Last year Kelly Clarkson cancelled a scheduled stop in Israel.

Travellers are warned not to enter many Muslim countries with a passport in your possesion that has an Israeli stamp on it. If you only have one passport, Israeli officers may be willing to attach a removeable slip of paper with you permission stamped on it. People have actually had problems in the past because they were detained in a muslim country and someone saw the ink that had transfered from the loose paper that the Islraelis had given them. This means nothing to celebrities. If they give a concert in Israel they will offend people in countries surrounding Israel, but also they will offend some individuals and groups outside the region as well.

I wish that something as positive as music could be held above and beyond politics. It can't. Jethro Tull will play in Israel this year.
