How have Soap Operas Changed?

This is a sponsored post.

It has been around a decade since Shakira was a young soap opera actress. It has also been around a decade since I have been a soap opera viewer. I was actually more of a soap opera listener. When I worked on a farm in the summer we usually had a siesta of sorts through the hottest part of the day. After eating a big meal, I would flop onto the couch and the television was always tuned into my mom's shows. I liked The Price is Right more than the soaps, but I did sometimes get caught up in the drama.

There are General Hospital Spoilers coming up. Soaps.com has plot summaries of all the big shows including General Hospital. The list of details in the spoilers page is huge. There are bombs and bongs as well as all the affairs and romances and arguments and office politics. Some of it occurs in a hospital. It looks like several plot lines are meant to imitate various current prime time hits like 24 and Weeds. I think copying the pace and production values of prime time is probably a good idea. I would have to watch in order to say whether it was working.
