When our kids were still young enough to actually be impressed by something, we decided to take a week long vacation that involved driving our car all the way to Toronto and staying in a short let apartment. We did e few really smart things during that vacation.
The first thing was that as soon as I got to the hotel parking lot I parked the family car and it stayed put until the day that we left Toronto. We wanted our kids to get a real taste of big city public transit. This might sound weird to people from New York or Chicago, but the TTC is actually not that scary or unpleasant. You could rent a car in Toronto, I wasn't keen on city driving.
The second stroke of genius was that we had pre-ordered groceries for the week online from a Toronto company that specializes in online scheduled grocery orders. All the food and water that we would need for a week of sightseeing arrived a few hours after we did, two elevators full of regular food. The children did not eat at a restaurant even once. The two of us had one special dinner at a fine restaurant in Toronto while a friend escorted the kids to a movie.
Toronto has a long list of must see stuff, we missed a couple of things. The CN Tower is impressive. The museums are amazing. The zoo is huge and a full day of fun for a family. The kids loved the big black squirrels that live in the many parks in Toronto.
I recommend taking a family vacation in Toronto. If you were to tie your vacation to a concert or event it would be even better. The Skydome is a very modern event location.
